Exploration: Parasol's

Thanksgiving weekend in New Orleans means shopping deals and the Bayou Classic (and time off from work for me!). On Friday, a friend and I went to the Bywater to an art market, and realized was not so our style. On the way back to our neighborhood, we wandered through the French Quarter, stopping at Sephora and a Tujague's, a bar and restaurant where a mutual friend works. Intending to catch the bus on Canal Street that goes up to Magazine Street, we saw that cars were gridlocked, trying to enter the Sheraton, and waited. And waited.

Eventually, it came, and a few hours later, met up again at Parasol's. A small Irish Pub in the Irish Channel, Parasol's closed a few months ago, was renovated and reopened. It managed to remain a lot of its original charm, and cleaned up a smell that had previously permeated the small bar, so I think the renovations were for the best.

Located in the heart of the Irish Channel, Parasol's is the prime spot on Saint Patrick's Day, with a block party between it and Tracy's, another Irish pub around the corner on Magazine Street. I, for one, and am glad that Parasol's is still around for next year's tribute to the Irish.
