Exploration: The Ferry
This week's post is a little different. My friend came to visit, so rather than trying a new place, Giselle and I decided to show him one of our favorites: The Crown and Anchor. It's across the Mississippi River, and the most fun way to get there is via the Algiers Point Ferry.
We took the streetcar downtown and walked a few blocks to the ferry dock on Canal Street by the River Walk. The ferry departs every half hour and shuttles between Canal Street and Algiers. The downside is that the last one leaves Algiers at 11:30 PM (9:30 on weeknights). Since we stayed out a little later, we hailed an Uber home.
You get a pretty view of the New Orleans' skyline, from the Mississippi River Bridge, the tall buildings of the Central Business District and the St. Louis Cathedral at Jackson Square. On a hot night, it is pleasant to sit on the deck with the breeze from the river and watch the city pass by.
It's only $2 to board (note: this is one way), so the ferry makes a great way to see Algier's Point!
