Exploration: Auction House Market
Exploration: Auction House Market
Location: 801 Magazine Street (Warehouse District)
A friend of mine mentioned that she had been downtown and saw a new place that looked neat. She would have stopped in, but the bus was on its way and the line looked long. From what she could see, there was different vendors in one space, including a coffee stand, quick lunch spots and, yes, a bar. (Btw, it was mid-afternoon when my friend passed by it; she would have grabbed a coffee.)
So, Gieselle and I headed downtown to see what it was about. Though it's not a large space, the open floor plan, high ceilings, white walls and lots of small (not florescent) lights made the room seem much larger. The bar was in the middle of the room, square-shaped. The food vendors (sandwiches, poke bowls, macaroons, coffee, and pastries lined the edges. It was crowded, but not uncomfortably so, and we found two seats together at the bar. Directly above the bar was a shelf of plants--cacti, small palms, vines.
Giselle ordered a South African red wine and I had a cocktail, the 20th Century. It's made with gin and has a refreshing lemon flavor to it, with a pretty orange/lemon peel garnish.
I can imagine the Auction Houses Market is busy at lunchtime. It's a great concept, like a food court, but without the harsh lights and cheesiness that usually comes with one. Overall, I liked it. It was busy without being rushed, crowded but not too much, and not overly pricey.
