Around the LGD: The Courtyard Brewery
Exploration: The Courtyard Brewery
Location: 1020 Erato Street (Lower Garden District)
This Friday, Gieselle and I stayed quite local. She was watching her friend's dog, a large Belgium Malinois. We obviously could not take him in an Uber or on the Streetcar, but luckily New Orleans is a dog-friendly city. It is not uncommon to see a dog sitting on the floor next to a group of people at a bar. With the nice evening weather (sorry Northern readers who just got a snowstorm), a place with ample outdoor seating seemed to be perfect.
Though Gieselle had been to the Courtyard Brewery before, but because I had not, we counted it as a Friday Exploration. Located a block of off of busy Magazine Street allowed the brewery convenience but gave it a little seclusion. As the name suggested, most of the tables were outside. They were round, made of unfinished wood and were varying heights. Clustered closely together, the chairs could easily be rearranged to accommodate group sizes. Lights decorated the trees overhead.
To order drinks, you had to go inside (where there was also a few seats and a TV). Because I don't like most beers, I ordered a Farmhouse Cider. Gieselle had a Hibiscus Sour, which had the added benefit of being a pretty color in the glass. The cider was decent, though not great. All of the drinks are brewed onsite and made on a small scale, sold only at the restaurant. Because many of them use seasonal ingredients, the menu changes frequently.
Overall, I enjoyed the unpretentious atmosphere and the chance to sit outside. I've heard that sometimes they have live music, which would make it that much cooler. I give it 3.5 stars.
